5 Simple AutoCAD Tricks To Save You Time! – Must Know Productivity Hacks!

Hey Everybody,

Brandon here back with a new post and I’m excited to get back to writing here and in general after a few months of focusing on the Youtube Channel and video tutorials.

Depending on when you’re reading this, you may have just finished enjoying the Long weekend (May Long) like myself. My family and I just took a relaxing camping trip with some friends where we were able to disconnect and really recharge while being away from the office and work.

Whether you happen to be coming back from a long weekend, vacation or just a day off, we’ve all had to deal with those short weeks.

Short weeks like those that we encounter with long weekends can be a blessing and a curse. In our industry, deadlines, and projects keep coming, and sometimes crunching a whole week of work into a shorter 4-day week can be the norm.

These crunch/rush periods of work are one of my main motivators to continually learn newer, faster, and more productive workflows when it comes to AutoCAD and design in general.

Being able to get more quality work done in a short period of time is a skill that can be improved with practice and learning. So with that in mind, let’s jump right into this week’s video, in it we take a look at 5 easy to remember, simple AutoCAD Tricks that will instantly help save you time in your short weeks!

3 AutoCAD Tricks to Search Layers, Styles, Blocks & More in Drawings! | 2 Minute Tuesday

Hey Everybody,

Brandon here back with a new post for you all, this week we are taking a look at 3 easy ways to help speed up working with Layers in AutoCAD. Specifically, how to search for layers in AutoCAD, whether you need to find out which layer an object is on in an xref, searching for a specific layer in a busy/large drawing, and more!

In the video, I walk through how to use each method of finding layers, step by step. My favorite is probably using the wildcard trick to search for a specific layer in any drawing on your computer or server! The xlist command can also be a real life-saver, especially on a large drawing with many xrefs.

watch the video below to learn all about each method and see how to use them:

AutoCAD Text Arrows/Leaders Tips, Tricks & Styles! Multi Leader Tutorial

Hey Everybody,

Brandon here and this week we are looking at how to work with and use MultiLeaders or MLeaders in AutoCAD.

Whether you’re new to AutoCAD or just looking for a refresher, this video will help get you up to speed when adding arrows or leaders to our text.

If you’re unfamiliar, an MLeader is a piece of MText (Multi Line Text ie text that spans multiple lines in AutoCAD) that has a Leader (Line with an Arrow or other block at the end of it) and Arrow (or other shape) pointing to something in a drawing. MLeaders are typically used to callout or bring attention to a specific item, object or area of a drawing allowing additional detail to be added in the multiline text portion while accurately pointing to the specific object.

In today’s video, we walk through how to use and add an MLeader to a drawing along with how to choose and modify the various settings that go along with them. Everything from changing up the properties of the leader like the landing distance to adjusting the style, sizes, and much more!

We also get to try out a few cool tricks to keep your drawings looking organized and clean!

Master these great MultiLeader tricks to Save Time in AutoCAD. Draft faster and Smarter!

How To Create a Profile in Civil 3D

I hope your week is going well and things are productive! It’s been a busy few weeks around here, between working on replacing an old deck at my house I’ve also got a handful of projects on the go at work with fast-approaching deadlines.

This is a great reminder of just how helpful it can be to learn new productivity tips as a designer and slowly implement them into your daily workflow.

If you’ve been following along on the channel or blog you’ll know I love to share helpful tips and trick when it comes to AutoCAD and Civil 3D that are sure to speed up your work.

That’s why, in this week’s video, I wanted to answer a super common question when it comes to Civil 3D.

In fact, when you search “Civil 3D How To…” typically one of the top results is asking about how to create Profile Views in C3D.

This is because Profiles are really the starting point and building block of the majority of Civil Design within C3D.
Before we can start getting complicated with road design, site grading, or even utility layouts, the first step is almost always to cut a profile in the area we’re interested in to see what the existing ground is doing.

As I’m sure you already know (I tend to mention it often haha…) my day job is as a Senior Civil Designer and I’ve used C3D Daily for well over a decade.
Which is why I’m always so excited to share Civil 3D tips and today’s video is no exception.

If you need to create a quick profile in Civil 3d today’s tutorial will get you started in no time!

Whether you use Civil 3d all the time or are just looking to learn something new, check out today’s video here:
Civil 3D How To Create a Profile – Quick Profile Views & Tips For C3D!

Hopefully, you enjoyed the video and are one step closer to designing in civil 3D!

I also want to thank Plex Earth for sponsoring today’s video. I know I’ve mentioned Plex Earth multiple times on the blog and newsletter, but if you’re unfamiliar with it or haven’t checked them out yet. Plex Earth is an AutoCAD and Civil 3d plugin that helps bring additional data and visualization to your project including Imagery, Surface Data, and Integration with Google Earth.

If you’d like to learn more and try out Plex-Earth you can use the link here to start a free trial now: http://cadintentions.com/plex_ci

That’s all for today, I hope you were able to take something away from the tutorial, and if you have any questions be sure to leave a comment or reach out on Twitter @cadintentions.

As always, thank you so much for reading, I am excited to be back and posting regularly on the blog and hope you all will follow along.

Cheers and happy Drafting!

Making a Simple Floor Plan in AutoCAD – Must Know Time Saving Tricks & Shortcuts

Hey All,

It’s hard to believe we’re already in March, it seems like just yesterday we were setting New Year resolutions and in the midst of an unusually warm winter.

With March comes spring and typically around here that means renovations, spring cleaning, and general organizing/re-arranging. One thing I’ve always taken for granted in my day-to-day life is the ability to quickly sketch or draft up a floor plan, site plan, or even landscaping plan to help visualize, budget, and prepare for my spring projects!

Whether we’re designing an entire new home floorplan, measuring out a playhouse, or simply want to recreate our bedroom for easier interior decorating/planning, a Floor Plan is a Must-have drawing to get started!

That’s why I’m so excited to share today’s sponsor (Rayon) a simple Floor Plan/Design app that’s free and browser-based, along with today’s new video tutorial!

You’ll learn some more about Rayon in the video but I’ve been using it recently and have loved creating quick and easy Floor Plans/Interior Designs with it!
We can even use it in conjunction with AutoCAD (.dwgs) to really improve the look and feel of our Plans, plus it’s FREE

Check out Rayon now for free here: https://cadintentions.com/rayon

Thanks to Rayon sponsoring today’s video!

Onto today’s video, as I mentioned earlier in it we are creating a simple floor plan in AutoCAD from scratch in just a few minutes.

Throughout the video we touch on a ton of little tricks and commands to help save you time as well as walk through the initial steps to get your floor plan set up, dimensioned, and ready to start designing in.

Plus I share one of my favorite timesaving tricks for any type of AutoCAD drawing, how to create a quick custom tool palette!

And you can even Download my Example File for Free!!
