What Kind of Pillow Do You Need?

You might think a pillow is a pillow. It just has to be soft and fit under your head, right? Your head, neck, and back disagree. Getting a good night’s sleep can depend heavily on your pillow, so when choosing one, here are a few key questions to ask.

What kind of sleeper are you? Do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach? Do you stay relatively still, or do you toss and turn a lot? Do you usually have one pillow under your head, or do you cocoon yourself into a pillow chrysalis? This is probably the most important thing to keep in mind when deciding what type of pillow works best for you and we’ve noted our picks below based on sleeping style.

What is the pillow made of? Pillows can be filled with all types of materials, from feathers to foam. Down and synthetic down are fluffy clusters of fiber that can feel soft and comfortable, whereas memory foam is designed to compress with the weight of your head but still return to its previous shape. Organic latex pillows can be heavy and spongey, holding a side-sleeper’s head in place. There are also hybrid pillows that use multiple layers of different materials for a more structured feel.

How are the materials sourced? Since some materials like down feathers come from animals, you might want to be aware of how manufacturers get their fill (literally). Down filling typically comes from the belly feathers of either ducks or geese. In order to ensure that down feathers are ethically sourced—such as by avoiding cruel practices like live plucking—programs like the Responsible Down Standard set criteria that manufacturers must adhere to. Another option is to look for synthetic down alternatives, which use cotton, rayon, or polyester as a synthetic replacement. The broader Material Matters Standard is a recently-overhauled system for examining the environmental impact and sustainability of bedding manufactuerers.

Path of Exile 2 Gets November 15 Early Access Launch Date

Ooh boy, this year’s been a blast for ARPG enjoyers, hasn’t it? Path of Exile 2 will release as an Early Access title on November 15, 2024.

I don’t recall Grinding Gear Games saying anything about a paid EA period, so I presume the game will be F2P from the start. For those not in the know, the first one is well regarded as one of the few free to play titles that don’t fleece and dime players (or sell power). You can pay for convenience in the form of extra stash tabs and similar “upgrades” or you can buy cosmetics. No powerful items, experience boosters, etcetera, and purchases carry over between both games (and, by the way, GGG aren’t “overwriting” their previous title with the new one, like Blizzard or Valve have done with Overwatch and CS:GO, something I greatly appreciate as I find this new trend to be extremely unsettling)

I’m a Diablo guy through and through, but with all of that pedigree in mind, I’m more than interested in Path of Exile 2 and you can bet I’ll be there on November 15th giving it a good honest go.

Path of Exile 2 is a next generation free-to-play Action RPG from Grinding Gear Games, featuring co-op for up to six players. Set years after the original Path of Exile, you will return to the dark world of Wraeclast and seek to end the corruption that is spreading.

Path of Exile 2 features a brand new campaign with six acts, 100 distinct environments, 600 monsters and 100 bosses.

Key Features

  • Twelve Character Classes
Path of Exile 2 features twelve character classes, two for every combination of Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence. While each of the class variants focuses on a different playstyle, they’re just a starting point. You can combine skills from many classes together to create your ideal character build.

Each of the twelve character classes has its own three Ascendancy specialisations, resulting in a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes to pick between.

  • New Skill Gem System
Path of Exile 2 features 240 Skill Gems that grant devastating active skills and 200 Support Gems that modify their behaviour. Combine these together to create your perfect build.

This is the next generation of Path of Exile’s famous skill system. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, removing many of the frustrations present in the old system while maintaining all the previous depth. It’s now possible to six-link every skill your character uses.

  • Dual-specialise your Passive Skill Tree
Path of Exile’s iconic Passive Skill Tree has made a return, with 1,500 skills that allow you to completely customise your gameplay experience. It now features Dual Specialisation, the ability to allocate some passive skill points to two different sets of skills. They engage whenever the appropriate weapon or skill type is used. For example, you can have some points allocated to both daggers and traps, or ice and lightning, and as you swap between attacks, the appropriate skill points will apply. This lets you specialise in multiple areas without opportunity cost.
  • Uncover All-new Items
Path of Exile 2 features 700 equipment base types and every single one has its own unique item you can find. You can augment your arsenal with new weapons such as Spears, Crossbows and Flails, as well as supplementary items like Focuses, Traps and redesigned Sceptres.
  • Encounter Unique Bosses
In Path of Exile 2, every area of the Campaign contains a boss encounter. There’s over a hundred bosses to fight as you make your way through the Acts and they all have unique mechanics to learn.
  • Explore a New Endgame
At the conclusion of Path of Exile 2’s six-act campaign, you’ll gain access to its endgame. Each of the more than 100 endgame maps has its own boss fight and modifiers that enable revamped versions of many of Path of Exile’s past leagues. We’ll reveal more details of the surprises that await you in Path of Exile 2’s endgame in the leadup to release.
  • Fair-To-Play. Never Pay-To-Win.
Path of Exile 2 is a separate game to the original Path of Exile. We will continue to offer expansions for both games going forward. They are completely free-to-play and will never be “pay to win”. Purchases are shared between the two games.

How Microsoft Flight Simulator Helped a Groundbreaking Lost Airliner Soar Once Again

“We brought two different groups together [for the Condor in Microsoft Flight Simulator],” Neumann tells me. “First, we have a company called iniBuilds that typically makes our airliners. They worked on the A320neo and they’re making an A330 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. They are top notch, the best of best in the industry to make airliners [for flight simulators]. And secondly, we worked with Oliver Moser, who I would call a highly enthusiastic aviation fanatic. He inundates himself and basically gets every book, newspaper, or any piece of information he can get. He’s German, so he has a much easier time with the [Condor] documentation and is probably now one of the most foremost knowledgeable people in the world on the subject. He’s responsible for the flight model and the flight deck and everything, while iniBuilds is providing the artwork, the animation, the sounds, and all that.”

This collaboration paid off in creating a highly detailed representation of the Condor, inside and out. Oftentimes when Microsoft and a partner create a Local Legend, there is not enough information available to create a highly accurate representation of a cockpit. Cockpits are usually not preserved in most museum pieces and there usually are also not sufficiently detailed photographs available to really have high confidence that everything is historically 100% accurate, but in the case of the Condor, the team had sufficient information to get everything correct.

I am hoping someone can lead me on the right path with understanding initializing multiple objects from a single structure in x86-64 and also shed some light on what it is I’m not understanding.

Below is the example code that I am working with. when I end up assembling the code, I get errors for the items which already have data entered during the initialization of the item (person1, person2, person3 and person5. I am using Visual Stuido 2022 17.11.10. The errors that I am getting is saying for each of these are as follows: “Too many initial values for structure” and as well as “String or text literal too long”. I am new to x86-64 and have been really enjoying everything that I have been learning.

any assistance is much appreciated. Thank you for even reading.

Loft Orbital forms joint venture with UAE-based firm to scale satellite production in the Middle East

A holding company affiliated with an Emirati royal family is injecting a new joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Marlan Space and startup Loft Orbital with over $100 million to grow the region’s domestic satellite manufacturing capabilities.

The joint venture, called Orbitworks, will be the first commercial firm in the United Arab Emirates to mass manufacture satellites. Majority ownership is with Marlan Space, a new space company affiliated with the International Holding Company. IHC is itself majority controlled by the Royal Group, a conglomerate owned by the ruling royal family of Abu Dhabi.

The UAE has high ambitions for space — and deep pockets to fund them. The UAE Space Agency (UAESA) is less than a decade old, but the government has spent billions investing in homegrown capabilities and establishing partnerships with other countries and commercial players. The UAE sent its first astronaut (or privately funded “spaceflight participant” as NASA put it) to the ISS in 2019; two years later, it became the latest member of a very small group of nations to put a probe into Martian orbit.

The Gulf nation’s space ecosystem has a few key players beyond the UAESA: Space42, a merger of Emirati satellite firm Yahsat and data analytics company Bayanat; EDGE Group, a large industrial prime; and a handful of universities and research institutions like the National Space and Science Technology Center. The country is at the point where it wants to deploy satellite constellations, and bring satellite manufacturing capabilities in-house.

Loft Orbital CEO Pierre-Damien Vaujour said in a recent interview that he’s long had an interest in the UAE’s space ecosystem: “Even when we started Loft, I had in mind at the very beginning that I wanted to open activities in the UAE and contribute to the ecosystem over there.”

San Francisco-based Loft buys satellite buses in bulk and flies payloads for customers, using a standardized modular payload adaptor that integrates the customer’s hardware with the spacecraft. Loft handles all of the launch integration and operates the spacecraft once it achieves orbit. The startup can also perform “virtual missions,” where customers can deploy applications on orbit that leverage onboard sensors, compute and cameras.

Vaujour said Loft’s flexible hardware will enable the JV to work with a wide variety of emerging players in the Middle East’s space ecosystem. “Loft can work with any payload supplier, any bus or subsystem providers, any ground station provider, any cloud provider … We’re providing the JV the playbook for production, operations and technology for satellites,” he said.

Orbitworks aims to manufacture up to fifty 500-kilogram satellites annually, and the hardware for the first ten satellites has already been procured. It will operate out of a 50,000 square-foot facility in Abu Dhabi, and the first satellite platform is expected to be assembled, integrated and tested there by early 2025.

Vaujour said the startup has set up its agreements with Marlan to ensure Loft remains compliant with U.S. regulations and export licenses. Loft’s separate entity, Loft Federal, will continue to deliver work for classified contracts for U.S. national security customers.

“This entity that has been created has a mandate to become the national champion in the country for satellite constellation production and operation, and that’s something that is fairly new,” Vaujour said. “While we’re starting with something small in scope, the idea is really to scale this at a different scale. The ambitions, both from the country, the region, and internationally for something like this is pretty big.”

Telegram’s Founder Reportedly Arrested in France Over Moderation Policy

Telegram’s cofounder Pavel Durov was arrested on Saturday night after at an airport several miles north of Paris, according to French news outlets BFMTV and TF1. Both outlets report that the billionaire CEO had arrived from Azerbaijan by private jet, and that he was the subject of a French search warrant over the app’s lack of moderators, and its alleged use in drug trafficking, money laundering, and the distribution of child abuse material.

So far, neither French authorities nor Durov have put out statements on the arrest. However, Telegram commented on X, formerly Twitter, that “Durov has nothing to hide,” while Russian officials reportedly condemned the detainment as an attack on free speech. X owner Elon Musk also posted about moderation and free speech following the reports.

A post on Telegram’s X account said the company “abides by EU laws” and its moderation efforts are “within industry standards.” The post continued, “It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform.”

The company added that it is “awaiting a prompt resolution.”

Durov was born in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) and is a naturalized citizen of France and the United Arab Emirates. Before Telegram, the tech executive cofounded VKontakte, Russia’s answer to Facebook. Durov reportedly sold his stake in VKontakte and left Russia in 2014 over state censorship demands. Telegram is currently headquartered in Dubai, and Durov said in April that the app has nearly a billion users.

Durov is 39 years old and worth an estimated $15.5 billion, according to Forbes. In July, the tech executive said he was a sperm donor, had “over 100 biological kids,” and planned to “open-source [his] DNA.”

Telegram has reportedly censored content in the past, including Hamas channels and “public calls for violence” related to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Yet, governments frequently clash with Telegram over its stance on content moderation and privacy, as well as its use by protestors. Russia attempted to block Telegram after the firm refused to hand over encryption keys in 2018. A year later, Durov claimed China had launched cyber attacks against the service to suppress protests in Hong Kong. Cuba blocked the app in 2021 amid protests over the government’s response to Covid-19, and two years later, a Spanish court briefly blocked Telegram access following copyright complaints from local media groups.

How many software updates will the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold get?

How many software updates will the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold get?

Google is one of the most committed Android manufacturers when it comes to software updates and the brand new Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is no exception with seven years of Pixel updates. Launching with Android 14, you can expect this phone to be on the latest build of Android with up-to-date security patches for years to come.

Update parity with the Pixel 9 series

Google’s latest folding phone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold looks a bit like a parts bin special from the spec sheet with the same Tensor G4 SoC and 16GB of RAM as the Pixel 9 Pro, but that’s far from a bad thing. While the previous Pixel Fold came with the aging Tensor G2 and 12GB of RAM, this new Fold is in line with the latest Pixel 9 Pro generation and is set to receive the same number of software updates with seven years of support.

Best Internet Providers in Murray, Utah

What is the best internet provider in Murray, Utah?

The best internet service provider in Murray is UTOPIA Fiber. This fiber network is owned by the city, which leases service to 14 different providers in the area. Each one offers slightly different plans, but you can’t go wrong — you’ll get fast service at a reasonable price from any of the plans they offer.

If you’re looking for the lowest prices possible, Xfinity is the cheapest internet provider in Murray. Plans start at just $20 per month for 150 megabits per seconds. That probably sounds too good to be true, and in a way it is — Xfinity’s prices increase significantly after a year or two (and sometimes both). This isn’t specific to Xfinity though — lots of internet service providers increase prices after the first couple of years.

Another good option is wireless internet through T-Mobile or Verizon, but we would recommend it only if you already have a cellphone plan through one of them and can take advantage of bundling discounts.

What’s a good internet speed?

Most internet connection plans can now handle basic productivity and communication tasks. If you’re looking for an internet plan that can accommodate videoconferencing, streaming video or gaming, you’ll have a better experience with a more robust connection. Here’s an overview of the recommended minimum download speeds for various applications, according to the FCC. Note that these are only guidelines — and that internet speed, service and performance vary by connection type, provider and address.

For more information, refer to our guide on how much internet speed you really need.

  • 0 to 5Mbps allows you to tackle the basics — browsing the internet, sending and receiving email, streaming low-quality video.
  • 5 to 40Mbps gives you higher-quality video streaming and videoconferencing.
  • 40 to 100Mbps should give one user sufficient bandwidth to satisfy the demands of modern telecommuting, video streaming and online gaming.
  • 100 to 500Mbps allows one to two users to simultaneously engage in high-bandwidth activities like videoconferencing, streaming and online gaming.
  • 500 to 1,000Mbps allows three or more users to engage in high-bandwidth activities at the same time.

How CNET chose the best internet providers in Murray

Internet service providers are numerous and regional. Unlike the latest smartphone, laptop, router or kitchen tool, it’s impractical to personally test every ISP in a given city. So what’s our approach? We start by researching the pricing, availability and speed information drawing on our own historical ISP data, the provider sites and mapping information from the Federal Communications Commission at FCC.gov.

But it doesn’t end there. We go to the FCC’s website to check our data and ensure we consider every ISP that provides service in an area. We also input local addresses on provider websites to find specific options for residents. We look at sources, including the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, to evaluate how happy customers are with an ISP’s service. ISP plans and prices are subject to frequent changes; all information provided is accurate as of publication.

Once we have this localized information, we ask three main questions:

  1. Does the provider offer access to reasonably fast internet speeds?
  2. Do customers get decent value for what they’re paying?
  3. Are customers happy with their service?

While the answers to those questions are often layered and complex, the providers that come closest to “yes” on all three are the ones we recommend. When selecting the cheapest internet service, we look for the plans with the lowest monthly fee, though we also factor in things like price increases, equipment fees and contracts. Choosing the fastest internet service is relatively straightforward. We look at advertised upload and download speeds and consider real-world speed data from sources like Ookla and FCC reports.

To explore our process in more depth, visit our how we test ISPs page.
